Labor Day Weekend

What a weekend to start a blog!! We were constantly busy the whole time!!

It began Friday with Amanda who was in town as she drove from Florida to Washington. She and Logan came over to hang out and swim. When they got there it was only Bryce and Tegan swimming with them. As time went on, Chase and and Ally both made it into the pool as well. Karai had football practice until 6pm. Arlene and Amanda came over and we all had dinner together. It was a fun night.

Chase ended up going home with them to spend the night with Logan, so Saturday morning he was unable to go with us to SunSplash with our neighbor, Kimberly, and 5 of her kids. It was fun and not too busy. We only stayed for about 2 hours. Just long enough.

We got home about the same time as Chase was getting back with Logan, Ashley and Arlene. We hung out, Arlene did some laundry, and once Robert got home from work we were able to go out for lunch together. We had told the boys if they finished cleaning the house while we were gone they could go see the "Dark Knight". They did pretty well so they got to go. I took Ally, Ashley and Bryce to Blockbuster to pick out movies and games. I even managed to try "Bottling Butter" after everyone else went to bed. Logan and Ashley spent the night and were able to go to church with us on Sunday.

After Church, Arlene picked them up and we headed over to Steve and Anne's for dinner and to see Richie while he was in town, before he headed up to BYU Idaho. Our friend Corrie came to join in the fun as well. Hopefully our "small" family dinner wasn't too overwhelming for her. After all it was only 23 or 24 family members and 4 or 5 friends. It was tons of fun, and we stayed way too long. We finally got home around 8:30pm or so but it was a good night.

Monday was Labor Day. A "day off" right? I guess that depends on your definition.

We started the morning cooking for pasta salad and broccoli salad, slicing tomatoes, dicing onions, and so on. Add in some laundry and cleaning, edging and mowing both the lawns, cleaning the pool and soon enough you are ready for 22 friends and family to come over for a BBQ.

Unfortunately, Robert didn't get the day off. He had to work and got home around 2pm. Just in time to change his clothes and take Karai to football practice at 2:30. Karai was worried that he was going to miss all the fun while he was at football.

Our friend Corrie was the first to arrive. I told her I wasn't sure if anyone else still liked us because no one had shown up yet, but it was only a matter of minutes before Anne and 1/2 of her kids arrived, followed shortly by John and Lindsay and their kids. Soon after Kaitlin came with family friends the Morgans. It wasn't too long before Robert started cooking since more than a few people were getting hungry. Steve and the rest of their kids made it over not too much later.

They all had loads of fun swimming and playing around in the pool. Of course, as soon as Robert finished cooking, Karai called and needed to be picked up from football. Needless to say we weren't waiting on dinner for them. They weren't too far behind everyone else though. They made it home before everyone else even made it through the food line. That is about the time that Spencer, the oldest Morgan, arrived as well, along with Richie and his friend Tara.

After dinner there was, of course, more swimming. But for those who preferred a drier entertainment we had karaoke. Now THAT's entertainment. Richie singing Enrique Iglesias' "Hero" followed by Karai singing Kelly Clarkson's "Since You Been Gone". Chase performed the Door 2 Door classic (Richie's former band) "Friday". Then what followed was about 5 rounds of different kids singing "I'm Proud to Be An American".

The Morgan's decided they needed to get home since it was already 7pm and high school starts at 6:30am. Karai finally got to swim although they came up with this game where they would beam each other in the head with various soccer and basketballs. Karai to most of his shots to the face. Logan and Richie had their own game of alley-oop shots at the basketball hoop.

For dessert Corrie made some brownies which we put candles in to sing "Happy Birthday" to Kaitlin. The only candles we could find were a big "5" and a big "8" so Kaitlin figured if she was going to be that old she wanted to make sure she got her "senior citizen discount".

The culmination of the evening was Zack in a short blonde wig on the bottom of a "dog pile". Richie's happiest moment was watching the dog pile and not being on the bottom.

All in all it was a great weekend.

Now you know why I take the pictures.

You can't be in them if you are behind the camera.
